Spacer 20 Carbon savings from Intelligent Electricity Management
Each kilowatt-hour of electricity used emits 0.537 kg of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Using Intelligent Electricity Management to reduce your electricity use is probably the simplest and most cost effective way to reduce your carbon emissions.

Calculating your carbon emissions
Spacer 20

If you have not yet calculated your carbon emissions, the Carbon Trust have a simple carbon calculator which is a good place to start

You can calculate footprints for several organisations and you can save the results for review. To calculate your footprint, you will need your fuel bills (gas, electricity and others), and details of your vehicle use, transport, and employee travel.

Carbon reduction targets
Spacer 20
These fall into two categories:
Spacer 20
1. Carbon reductions required by law
Spacer 20
The Climate Change Act has committed the UK to reduce green house gas emissions to 80% of their 1990 levels by 2050.
Spacer 20
Regulation emerging from the Act include the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme (formerly the Carbon Reduction Committment) which obliges organisations using more than 6,000 MWh a year to join a mandatory cap and trade scheme, and National Indicators 185 (Percentage CO2 reduction from LA operations) and 186 (Per capita reduction in CO2 emissions in the LA area) focussing local government efforts to reduce emissions.

2. Voluntary carbon reductions
Spacer 20
Some organisations, whether from stakeholder pressure, internal Cosporate Social responsibility policies or supply chain pressure, have set internal emissions reduction targets

Whether your committment is legal or voluntary, Intelligent Electricity Management is probably the simplest approach to meeting emissions reduction targets.
